Not just to my eye, but for the rest of the residents of Far Northeast Philadelphia, it feels like we are stuck in a situation where we are no longer needed (but for a short period right before the elections) as people.
Thanks to Dan Toy and Mo Town watch, the Captains Town Hall meeting was not just crowded, but people were staying outside and watching live video from that meeting:
Despite of endless amount of safety issues and the very fast degrading of the relationship between Police officials and residents, it’s very nice that so many citizens were there to voice their concerns. Even as my personal experience, it was the very first time (I have been a resident of Philly since 2015) I’ve seen our Councilman out in public and answering questions (so I strongly recommend you to invest some time into watching that live).
Unfortunately, not many answers were given (if any).
The scariest statistic (to me, at least) is that just in the 8th district, for 22 schools, we only have two police vehicles. That’s it. That’s how we keep the most precious of what we have safe. Please listen to the live video (kudos to Rich for making it). I’ve left out that meeting with a feeling that we are on our own… Damn, not enough police? Washington High, crossing guard? Not even a pedestrian crosswalk to get kids across the Bustleton Speedway so they can get on the bus, where speed limit signs are held solely for “suggestive” purposes.
It’s not a lack of police, it’s a simple lack of care.
Lack of care for your kids, family, neighbors, neighborhood, businesses, and everything surrounding it…
It’s time to move on.
